How to create server alias

Can anyone descrive in principle how a Web server alias is actually set
up? How do you get a server alias to point to a particular server with
a particular IP address within a large organisation? The outcome being
that when a user types the alias url into the address bar, the correct
page appears in the browser window
Hi
Does it somehow relate to SQL Server?

how to create filegroups

I was directed to create filegroups so that clients that install msde or sql
server would look the same Can anyone point me in the right direction on how
to
create the filegroups on msde.
I was thinking about just splitting up the indexes and tables at this
point. Is this what a sql server install would do so that they could take
advantage of Raid drive?
See Filegroups|Creating in Books Online. The basic syntax is:
ALTER DATABASE <dbname> ADD FILEGROUP <filegroupname>
Then add files to the filegroup with:
ALTER DATABASE <dbname> ADD FILE (NAME = <filename>) TO FILEGROUP
<filegroupname>

how to copy sql server database

how do I go about copying a sql server database on my Vista
development PC to my W2K3 server PC?
Could some just point me in the right direction? Admittedly I have
other issues to resolve in that my Vista development PC cant connect
to sql server on my server PC. ( file sharing works however )
thanks,I'd do a BACKUP DATABASE on the Vista machine and then RESTORE DATABASE on the W2K3 machine.

Just make a backup (using the SQL Server backup engine) of the
Vista-based database to a network share on your W2K3 server then restore
that backup on the W2K3 machine. This should look something as follows:
--On the Vista PC
backup database mydb
to disk = '\\w2k3server\myshare\mydb.bak'
--On the W2K3 Server
restore database mydb
from disk = 'c:\mysharedfolder\mydb.bak'
Hope this helps!

gosh, that was easy. The only thing I add knowledge wise is I had to
first install the sql server managment studio express on my Vista PC.
